surface design with a chainsaw

_motu_chainsaw woodcut

_inspired by the renaissance discussion on the geocentric system vs. the heliocentric system

_three 2100 x 300 mm planks of maple wood were planed and secured to provide a large canvas to “draw
  onto” with a chainsaw

_two different designs were cut and then printed on fabrics - a gathering and planetary inspired patterns -
  the planks serve as sculptures

_the delicate, swift stroke of the chainsaw woodcut of the gathering stays in a strong contrast to the strict,
accurately drawn lines of the circles

_both techniques ridicule the omnipresent opinion that a chainsaw is a very rough trade tool

_motu is a Maori term with many meanings amongst them “the cut” and “cut off/set free”
